History of the Mockingbird Guitar
Even though it has an eye-catching and elegant ultra-modern bird-in-flight look, the origins for the mockingbird guitar
shape actually goes back to the early days of B.C. Rich. Originally conceived in 1976, Bernie Rico and
Neal Moser designed the Mockingbird based on an idea of Johnny GoGo's. The story goes that the "mockingbird"
design was based on a shape drawn on a napkin while sitting at Denny's at 11PM drinking coffee. The result
was the Mockingbird. The first Mockingbird was a short-scale bass. Today the Mockingbird is one of B.C. Rich's
standard guitar and bass shapes available in a variety of series like the Platinum series or the NJ Series as well
as one of their most popular handcrafted guitar shapes from the B.C. Rich Custom Shop.
