The first electric bass guitar was created by Leo Fender in 1951. The Fender Precision Bass, also known as the "P-Bass",
is the most popular bass guitar of all time, and is still being manufactured today. The Fender Precision Bass has a body
designed after a
Fender Telecaster electric guitar. The Fender Precision Bass was the
first mass-produced electric bass guitar.
The Fender Jazz Bass, introduced later in 1960, was known originally as the "Deluxe Model", but became known later as the
Jazz Bass or "J-Bass". The Fender Jazz Bass has gone on to become one of the most played instruments in modern musical history.
Many of Fender's first innovative features like ultra slim fast-action necks, off-set waist bodies, and full-range bi-pole
pickups were first seen on the Fender Standard Jazz Bass.
